Family / Marriage Counselling
What is marriage counselling?
The relationship between partners is vitally important for a happy life, whether they are in a formal marriage or not. When a relationship is going well, it can have a positive effect on every aspect of your life, including your physical health.
When a relationship isn’t going well, however, the consequences can be dire for everyone involved. The inevitable conflicts that arise in relationships are often highly stressful because they are so personal.
- If you aren’t happy in your relationship it may be time to seek help.
- You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.
- “Could I ever trust him/her again?”
- “Is it really worth it anymore?”
- “Can I carry on with this?”
- “Am I still in love with you?”
- “Why do I feel so betrayed?”
- “Why don’t we have sex anymore?”
- “Am I still attracted to him/her?”
What will happen in a marriage counselling session?
When undergoing relationship and marriage counselling with a psychologist from Happy Counselling, you, your partner, and your therapist work together to determine what you both want from the relationship.
A professional psychologist will make sure the exchanges are fair and equitable, allowing both parties to talk and express how you’re feeling. There will be no bias or taking sides. Your psychologist acts as an impartial moderator, elaborating and clarifying any points and issues that may arise, giving both partners more clarity behind what is being said.
We will examine any patterns within your experiences that impact the relationship. There are many approaches to marriage counselling and your therapist will create a program that suits you and your partner.
In some cases, it may be necessary to conduct sessions alone. Your communication patterns are always explored in an effort to make positive changes.
Being able to work through problems and successfully navigate through conflict to a peaceful resolution is a skill that can be learnt.
The effect on children
If there are troubles at the top in a family you can bet that it’s being felt at the bottom. Children are very finely tuned into the energies with which their parents interact.
They may not discuss it with you or display any outward signs, but if you are feeling bad then there is a good chance that they are too. We are happy to include children in the therapy process although it needs to be planned and strategic.
Talk with a psychologist from Happy Counselling to find out how this can work for you.
